If I have to see one more picture of Miley Cyrus’s ass and a raw chicken or hear one more news story about how disgusting and inappropriate her performance was, I will literally throw my phone out of a window. People act like they are perfect and have never taken a bad photo.
Please - nothing in the universe moves faster than a person untagging an unflattering picture on social media.
Lets get real here, you’ve never been 20 years old and did something wildly extreme and offensively inappropriate? I’m not saying Miley is a perfect role model and I want my little cousins to look up to her. But SHIT man, if half the crap I pulled in high school or college was televised- I WOULD HAVE TO SHAVE MY HEAD AND MOVE TO AFRICA.
I get why parents/adults/uptight citizens are OUTRAGED, it’s for the kids. You don’t want girls to become over sexualized at a young age. You dont want boys to only see girls as sex objects (or do you?! *double standard*, but thats an entirely different rant. I digress..) BUT SERIOUSLY?! Isn’t that your job as parents? Aren’t YOU supposed to sit down and have that “talk” with your kids? Teach them what is right and wrong? Acceptable and unacceptable? Appropriate and inappropriate? etc., etc. I have never understood why people blame celebrities for kids actions. BE A BETTER PARENT.
Be involved in your kids life. For example: know who they hang out with, know if they use social media and if so, KNOW THEIR PASSWORD, be engaged with them, ask them questions, ASNWER THEIR QUESTIONS HONESTLY, let them know they can ALWAYS be honest with them, trust them when they ask you to, don’t sugarcoat life, let them know you will always love them, protect them, care for them, and ground them when they get out of line. YOU ARE THE PARENT and until that child is a semi-mature, responsible adult (could be 16 years old could be 25 years old) it’s your responsibility to GUIDE (not direct) them to the right path.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: know WHO you’re child really is. Admit when they are wrong or even right. Let them know when they have behaved like a mature adult would and that you are proud of them. Uplift them, always provide a “judge-free” environment. Praise them and make sure they know that no matter what they do with their life, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE THERE FOR THEM AND LOVE THEM UNCONDITIONALLY.
If you do all that, no performance at the VMAS could change them.
Also, leave Miley alone. She is not the problem. Wake up. Take responsibility for your life and the lives of those you bring into this world.
